Web Page SEO - Internal Linking Strategy For Professional Business Development

A good internal linking strategy is an important part of web page SEO for professional business development. The reason for that is that in order to develop a business, a professional such as an attorney, physician or accountant must have a functional website with well-constructed links that offers the maximum possible exposure of each page to online visitors.
There was a time when this was not so, but with the explosion of the internet and inexpensive broadband becoming increasingly more available, an increasing number of people reach for their laptop when considering using your professional services, and if you site does not appear at least within the first two pages of the search results then you have had it. Yellow pages are old hat and people no longer walk the streets searching out your offices.
In order to develop your business you have to get known, and, while it is not easy to get your web pages listed within the top 20 on Google (preferably the top 10), once you have achieved that then you have potentially the whole world standing on your doorstep knocking to get in.
Professional business development for you will involve developing each of your web pages using web page SEO of a sufficiently high standard to achieve that, and among the more advanced methods that you must take on board are your linking strategies, one of which is your internal linking strategy.
Internal Google PageRank
Google PageRank (PR) is Google's way of measuring the popularity of your web pages, and is a significant factor in the algorithm that determines where your page is listed. Each link to your page provides PR points from the page linking to yours, based on the PR of that page and the number of other links leaving it. Although not quite the other pages PR divided by the number of other links, it is approximately that (0.15 + 0.85xPR/no of other links leaving that page).
These pages can be linking to your target page either from other websites or internal from your own, and it is the latter we are discussing here. The total PageRank of a site is 1*the number of pages on the site, so a 10 page site has a total PR of 10 and 100 page site a total PR of 100. That is a fact confirmed by Google.
If a page has no links then its PR is 0.15 (since 0.85*0 is zero). If you have three pages on your site, none linked to each other, then each has 0.15, making a total of 0.45 for the site, so you are losing 3 - 0.45 = 2.55 PR by not linking the pages of your site. Link then all to each other then you get:
Page A: 0.15 + 0.85*1 = 1.0 and that applies to all the pages. Each has one link from a page with PR 1, so the total PR for each page is 0.85*1 plus 0.15 = 1.0.
So now we are using the total PR for the site, which explains why linking is essential to maximize your use of the PR that Google gives your site initially. Each page does not start with 1.0 - they have to link to share the PR of the linked page.
An added complication is that the result is iterative, because now that each page's PR has changed, the calculation has to be carried out again. In the above case, with all pages linked to each other, the result stays at 1.0, no matter how many times you carry out the calculation.
Now link all pages to A and A to B and C, so that B and C are not linked to each other. After 100 iterations you end up with: A: 1.46 and B and C with 0.77 each - again a total of 3.0, but with A having the most.
You can play around with various internal linking strategy options, including with new pages (add 1.0 to the total available for each new page) and you will see how you can organize your linking to offer one page as much of the PR as possible, or to split it between 2 or 3 pages, with least to your less important pages.
The more pages in your site the more PR you give to your home page, for example, by organizing your links. This also shows how you can split some long pages into two or even three pages to maximize even further the PR of your home page. Link one page to every other page, and then them back to that one, and that one page will have the maximum PR. The greater the PR of any page, the higher it is likely to be listed.
Your internal linking strategy is an important factor in your web page SEO, and can be used to achieve as a high a PR as possible for individual pages of your choosing. Professional business development is very important for your long term future, and you can arrange the links on your website to help provide your home page, or any other page you prefer, with a sound listing that will develop your business and provide you with a strong customer base.
